A Spanish zoologist (or more precisely Catalonian !), specialized in the study of amphibians, associated to the laboratory of Reptiles and Amphibiens of the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris, Jordi Magraner has done for about 10 years field research in the Chitral district (N. Pakistan), on the trail of the bar-manu, the local wild man.

    Speaking the local language (chitrali), Jordi Magraner was using a very rigorous methodology (with a multiple choice questionary based upon 63 anatomical features), providing evidence for the authenticity of the frozen specimen studied by Bernard Heuvelmans in 1968, the identikit picture of which, among hundred other representations, is identified by all Pakistanese witnesses with their bar-manu.

    Jordi Magraner has been assassinated in August 2002, while being on a new expedition in North Pakistan. He was 43 years old.
